Provo » How much of this was simply domination and how much of this was a statement?
By halftime, that was the only question remaining as Timpview continued its mastery of Provo as the Thunderbirds rolled to a 64-7 victory in front of a standing room only crowd at Bulldog Stadium.
The winning streak is now 20 straight for Timpview, who last lost to Provo during the George Bush Sr. administration (1989).
Unlike most of the previous matchups, this had was supposed to have a little extra oomph with the Region 7 championship on the line. The oomph never showed.
Provo never seemed to recover from Maka Unufe suffering an early injury that kept the senior on the field for 20 minutes in the first quarter. He was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center as a precaution.
Meanwhile, the Thunderbirds rolled to their sixth straight regional championship.
Timpview (7-2 overall, 6-0 region) scored on five of its seven possessions en route to a 37-0 halftime lead as Trevor Brown tebowed for 227 yards (110 rushing, 107 passing) and four touchdowns (one rushing, three passing). The Thunderbirds outgained the Bulldogs (8-2,5-1) 349-29 in total yards in the first 24 minutes.
The first of two touchdowns from Brown to Zack VanLeeuwen -- an 80-yarder on the second play from scrimmage -- set the tone for the rest of the game.
"We were keyed us for the game ... we heard they were saying that they could hang with us,'' said Brown. "When we get made, we play our game. We popped them in the mouth when we scored right away. ''
Brown added a 52-yard keeper and connected with Jacob Hatch on a 52-yard strike as Timpview racked up 23 points in the second quarter.
He padded his passing total to a final of 344 on the strength of a 72-yard screen to Ky Rymond.
The Bulldogs averted the shutout on Keoki Unufe's 58-yard run with 5:10 remaining.
"Provo's had a great season and I hope Maka gets better so they can make a deep run in the playoffs,'' said Timpview coach Louis Wing.
Timpview wins its sixth straight Region 7 championship and extends its winning streak over Provo to 20 straight.
