The end of the West-Olympus football game Friday was so tense that Olympus quarterback Spencer Harris couldn't even watch.

"I had someone next to me tell me what happened," he said.

What he chose not to watch was his defense sealing the 7-6 victory for the home team. Here's what Harris missed: with 38.1 seconds left and having just scored on fourth down and goal from the 3 yard line, West lined up for a 2-point conversion.

Quarterback Chance Abrath rolled to his right with several Titan defenders in strong pursuit. First looking to turn the corner to take it in himself, he soon found his lane closed and lofted the ball to the back of the end zone. His receiver jumped up in the midst of three green jerseys and tipped the ball but it fell out the back of the end zone. Olympus recovered the ensuing onside kick to seal the victory.

"I wanted to send the message to the kids that we're here to win games," West coach Justin Spencer.

The Panthers were gifted their scoring opportunity when Olympus muffed a punt with 3:17 left in the game. West recovered the ball on the 26-yard line. Six plays later Abrath found Tevita Fangupo in the front corner of the end zone. It was the break a struggling Panther offense needed.

West seemingly found its direly-needed score on the first play of the fourth quarter when Tana Afeaki broke loose for a 76-yard score that was called back for a personal foul. Afeaki finished the night with 22 carries for 133 yards. But 11 penalties for 85 yards in the first half hurt the Panthers.

Olympus found its score in the first quarter when Harris found Nick Johnson on a crossing route that spanned 17 yards for the touchdown. The drive lasted 10 plays and 64 yards and charged on when Harris ran a draw play for 12 yards on third down and 10.
