Highly-regarded Pleasant Grove quarterback Dallas Lloyd has committed to Stanford, according to his father, Casey.
Lloyd, at the time of his commitment, held 11 offers, including one from Utah and BYU. He is thought of as one of the highest recruited quarterbacks to come out of the state in recent years. But his visit to Stanford, coupled with his desire to play football in the Pac-10, caused him to cut his recruitment short.
"During my visit there, I wanted to find something wrong with the school and the campus and I couldn't," Lloyd said. "Throughout the recruiting process, I figured out three things that I want. One, I wanted a school with strong academics, something that could set me up for life after football. Second, the Pac-10 is the best conference in the country, and the third thing is the coaching staff. With all three of those, I felt comfortable with Stanford."
Lloyd said that he will try to leave for a mission shortly after he graduates. Upon his return to Stanford, he plans on taking a redshirt season, which means that his college football debut is at least three years away.
He also said that he was glad to make his decision so that he could concentrate on getting ready for the upcoming year.
"The goal is to win a state championship," Lloyd said. "I want to improve on my overall game, every area. I had 11 offers, but with Stanford, I figured out what I wanted."
At 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, Lloyd is considered by many recruiting services as a four-star athlete. He's deemed a dual threat quarterback with his ability to thrive in both the passing game and to get out of the pocket and scramble.
With Pleasant Grove last season, Lloyd was 93-169 for 1,689 yards and 15 touchdowns, while throwing just four interceptions. He also rushed for five touchdowns.
