Logan » The Springville Red Devils boys' basketball team earned a spot in the Cache Holiday Classic finals with a win over the home favorite Logan Grizzlies, 75-56 on Monday.
"This win felt really good," said Springville coach Craig Kitchen, "We watched them play Saturday night, and felt like they were a good team. They pressed Cyprus all night long and we were a little worried about their traps and their presses."
Springville took an early advantage in the game, outscoring the Grizzlies 20-12 in the first quarter. But Logan senior guard Omar McDade mounted a second-quarter rally, hitting a trio of three-pointers to bring Logan within six, with 4:00 remaining in the quarter.
Springville again widened the gap to 10 by halftime, and it looked as though the Red Devils might have the game sealed in the third when junior guard Raul Delgato hit a pair of threes and helped Springville open up a 15-point lead.
But Logan rallied again with a 7-0 run with 1:45 remaining in the third and again brought the Grizzlies within eight, heading into the final quarter of play.
The fourth quarter was all Springville. The Grizzlies went to their full press, but the Devils had an answer at every turn.
"We told our guys to be patient and pass out of the Logan press, not dribble out and get in trouble," said Kitchen.
The Devils followed the plan, outscoring the Grizzlies 25-12 in the fourth quarter.
Springville moves on to face Jordan in the finals tonight. The Beetdiggers earned a spot in the finals by beating Pleasant Grove 58-55.
