During its state semifinal matchup against Skyline at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Thursday, a sign held by a Bingham fan in the stands said it all.

"Revenge is sweet," it said.

And Bingham running back Harvey Langi couldn't agree more.

"I just wanted to give my seniors a chance to leave with a ring on their finger. I can't let them go down."

Langi made sure that chance materialized, running for 174 yards on 26 carries and two touchdowns - 114 of those in the first half.

But it wasn't until recently that Langi emerged as the Miners' go-to guy. In fact, Thursday's performance marked his third consecutive two-touchdown outing for the sophomore.

"[The] big difference from earlier in the year is that Harvey didn't carry the ball as much," said Bingham coach Dave Peck. "But he has progressed from week to week and we've seen a big difference in his play."

Langi kicked off Bingham's 37-15 rout with a 40-yard touchdown run at 7:06 in the first quarter, setting the tone for the Miners' eventual rout of the fumbling Eagles.

But the 6-foot-1, 210-pound Langi didn't just post big numbers against Skyline - he put the dagger in the Eagles' hopes of a comeback in the third quarter, carrying three Skyline defenders with him for a 2-yard touchdown to put the game out of reach, 31-8.

"It feels great, I can't really express how good," Langi said.

Before the game, Skyline coach Roger DuPaix had said that Bingham was "the hottest team in the state."

Thursday's win showed Langi and the Miners - who had lost to Skyline 24-17 in their season opener - are starting to believe that, too.

"We're more disciplined now," said Langi. "We have each other's backs."
