SYRACUSE - What was expected to be an exciting game between Syracuse and Mountain View, turned into and aerial onslaught from the Titans, as they rolled to a convincing 35-6 victory in front of the home crowd.
Leading the way was quarterback Braden Hamblin. The senior threw for five touchdowns Friday night, as the Titans offense proved to be too much for Mountain View to handle. Hamblin connected on 11 of 17 passes for 214 yards and had the benefit of a strong running game that drew the safeties in, and left one-on-one coverage for his receivers to work against.
"All week in practice we had been working on the play action fakes, because we knew they were going to try and stop our run, and we came out tonight and got some nice early runs that set up the play-action perfectly. Our line did a great job, I was able to sit back there and go through my reads. You know, just everything clicked tonight."
Hamblin had plenty of targets to throw to as six different Syracuse players had at least one reception. Kalon Evans had two receiving touchdowns, and Tanner Russell had a 48-yard touchdown grab.
Mountain View's star running back Anthony Heimuli was mysteriously absent from the game, as he did not play a down the whole night, yet was fully dressed in his pads on the sideline. No reason was given as to why Heimuli sat out the game.
Titans assistant coach Eric Jones did not know why Heimuli was not in the game either.
"He's a great player, and that certainly helped us out tonight," Jones said. "They put it on us pretty good last year, so it felt nice to come out the way we did, and dominate on both sides of the ball."
