A 0-2 start doesn't mean Miners are out

Here's a message to all Class 5A football teams: The Bingham Miners aren't on the verge of calling the season off, there is no panic mode in the Bingham camp, the playoffs aren't a distant goal because of an 0-2 start, it's first 0-2 start since 1992.

Oh, yeah, coach Dave Peck still expects to compete for a state championship.

"I really do think we're going to be there in the end, when it's all said and done," Peck said. "We still have a good team. We had a great day of practice on Monday. We just ran into a great team in Alta and a great team in Skyline."

Of course, it's well known that expectations for the Miners were through the roof before the season started.

Then came the 24-17 loss to Skyline in the season opener in a road game that was originally slated to be a home game.

Last week brought the 27-19 defeat at the hands of Alta in a game Bingham led 17-3 in the first quarter. The Miners jumped ahead, in most part because of stellar special teams play.

Quest for a record

Timpview has won two consecutive Class 4A titles, and it's gunning for a third this fall. The T-birds also have a state record in their sites, with Friday's 57-12 win over Spanish Fork, Timpview has pushed its win streak to 25 games, which is good for the second-longest streak in state history.
