The game picked up momentum when Panther wide receiver Tanner Wood caught a screen pass and scampered 80 yards for the first score of the game. After a three and out from the Dons, followed by a terrible punt, Panther quarterback Justin Ence sprinted 57 yards for another score.
After a slow start last week, the early scoring was just what the Panthers needed.
"We wanted to come out firing, and we did, " Ence said.
Yet, after a fast start, Pine View scored only twice more the remainder of the game, as the speed of the Dons defense befuddled the Panthers' zone read offense.
Dominguez quarterback Aaron Williams used quick feet to escape the rush and heaved a prayer 53 yards downfield that was answered by receiver Tracy Alexander, giving the Dons their first trip inside the red zone, which they turned into 7 points and a 14-7 defecit.
On the following possession for the Panthers, Dominguez corner Marvin Thomas intercepted an errant Ence pass and took it to the Panthers' 9-yard line, which was punched in for another score by Marcus Darden making the halftime score 21-14 for the Panthers.
Pine view turnovers would keep the Dons in the game the whole night.
"When you're not used to the speed it makes it a little tougher on some of our kids," said Pine View Coach Ray Hosner. "I told the kids there would be turnovers, but a team is made from overcoming those turnovers and we did that tonight."
Pine View would add a field goal in the second half and Dominquez had a couple of last-ditch opportunities off Panther turnovers that came up short.
" The win gives us a lot of confidence, but it doesn't get any easier from here on out," said Hosner.
The Panthers are looking forward to what could be a 4A semifinal with Cottonwood in Salt Lake this week.
