Fall drives: Southwest Colorado offers 8 scenic byways

Travelers looking to enjoy autumn leaf displays might want to check out southwest Colorado's eight scenic byways.

These include the 65-mile Alpine Loop near Ouray, Silverton and Lake City; the 17-mile Bachelor Historic Loop that goes through Creede; the 51-mile Grand Mesa Scenic Byway through the towns of Mesa and Cedaredge; the 236-mile San Juan Skyway through towns such as Durango, Silverton, Ouray, Ridgway, Telluride, Rico, Dolores, Cortez and Mancos; the 75-mile Silver Thread Scenic Skyway through Creed and South Fork; the Trail of the Ancients in the Four Corners area; the 138-mile Unaweep/Tabeguache between Grand Junction and Placerville; and the 205-mile West Elk Scenic and Historic Byway from Carbondale into Crested Butte.
