The 2017 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah won't be trekking south in the dog days of summer. The 13th annual professional cycling race instead will hover around Northern Utah for the upcoming seven-stage event, which begins July 31 and concludes Aug. 6.

The 10 host communities were unveiled at a news conference Wednesday at the Vivint Smart Home Arena. Four first-time hosts (Brigham City, Stage 2), Big Cottonwood Canyon (Stage 3), South Jordan (Stage 4) and Layton (Stage 5) were introduced as part of the 2017 Tour of Utah.

"With the Tour of Utah, the venue is the state of Utah," said Steve Starks, president of Larry H. Miller Sports & Entertainment. "This is something special."

The first stage will start and finish in Logan on July 31, encompassing a route that will tie in the scenery of Bear Lake as well as Logan Canyon. Stage 2 begins in Brigham City and traverses to Snowbasin Resort, which has acted as host four times but will serve as a finish for the first time.

For the first time since the 2011 Tour of Utah, an individual time trial will be part of the equation when cyclists test their mettle in Big Cottonwood Canyon in the third stage. Stage 4 will be a featured circuit race in South Jordan, which will be followed by a Layton-to-Bountiful fifth stage.

Jenn Andrs, executive director of the Tour of Utah, said the annual Queen's Stage will feature a new twist on an old favorite. The sixth stage will begin in the Heber Valley at Soldier Hollow Resort, then feature a series of ascents and descents to Snowbird Resort in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

The seventh and final stage won't end on Park City's Main Street as it has much of the last decade. The deciding day of the Tour of Utah instead will conclude on the downtown streets of Salt Lake City.

Andrs said specifics of each route will be announced sometime in the spring.
