The outsider: Spawning cutthroat, Venture Outdoors

Spawning cutthroat

State wildlife officials are inviting the public to watch as they take eggs from female cutthroat trout at the Strawberry Reservoir Visitor Center Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The trout are working their way from Strawberry Reservoir into the Strawberry River to spawn. Officials are catching them and doing the spawning for them.

Venture Outdoors Festival

The third annual Venture Outdoors Festival is Saturday at Canyon Rim Park, 2900 E. 3100 South, East Millcreek. The family-friendly festival is free and will feature recreation clinics, a kids' run, live music and guest speakers. Most activities are between 3 and 9 p.m., but some, such as the run, are earlier in the day. Visit www.millcreek outdoors.com for a complete schedule of activities.
