Archuleta signs music contract

Posted: 4:59 PM- He may have lost, but second-place "American Idol" contestant David Archuleta also won.

The 17-year-old Murray singer signed a music contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records, the same company that "Idol" winner David Cook signed with, according to a statement released by the label Thursday.

He is expected to release his debut album later this year. His father, Jeff Archuleta, said his son has begun writing his own material.

The music label is from the same company, 19 Entertainment, that produces "Idol."

"Signing a record contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records is truly a dream come true," Archuleta said in a statement.
