Posted: 1:17 PM- VERNAL - Winter took a heavy toll on fish at two popular fishing spots in northeastern Utah.

State officials say it's likely that all the fish died in Crouse Reservoir and a large number died in Calder Reservoir.

Winterkill happens when ice on the surface keeps oxygen from fish or because lethal chemicals build up in the fish.

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources plans on restocking the reservoirs this summer.

State officials are also checking for die-offs at other Utah reservoirs.
