Outdoor notebook: Experience Slickrock Trail on one wheel (with video)

The ninth annual Moab MUni Fest is March 28-30. The mountain unicycle event is open to riders of all abilities and includes rides on the Slickrock Trail and practice loop, Amassa Back trail, the Moab Rim to Hidden Valley, riding trials and social events.

Tundra Swan Day

Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge near Brigham City is hosting a Tundra Swan Day on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The events are family friendly and free. A display will inform participants about tundra swans at the visitors center. Volunteers will be stationed throughout the refuge to help point out the big birds along a 12-mile auto tour. Binoculars and spotting scopes will be available for better viewing. The education center is at 2155 W. Forest St. (I-15 exit No. 363, turn west one block). Treasure Hunt

Park City Academy is hosting the second annual All Mountain Treasure Hunt at Park City Mountain Resort on March 14-15. The hunt is open to all intermediate and advanced skiers. Teams of two will be given a "clue passport" leading to nine checkpoints. The three fastest teams receive prizes. The event is a fundraiser for Park City Academy's Scholarship Program. Birding events

Great Salt Lake Audubon is holding the following events. Beginning birders are welcome. Contact trip leaders to confirm.

Bob Huntington will lead a trip to the BP wetlands Wednesday. Meet at 8 a.m. at the Shopko parking lot in Salt Lake City. Call Bob at 801-595-8748 for more information.

Tim Avery will lead his Shorebirds ID class Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sugarhouse Garden Center. The cost is $5. Call Deedee at 801-272-8060 to reserve a spot.

Brunch, Bird and

Art History

Wildlife artist Debbie Goodman is leading a class called "Brunch, Birds and Art History" on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Ogden Nature Center, 966 W. 12th St. Goodman will present a slide show of some of the world's most recognizable bird and wildlife art images from ancient times to the present. She will explore what the portrayals tell us about art, culture and our connection with nature.

Registration is encouraged by today. The cost is $12 for members and $14 for others. Call 801-621-7595 to register and for more information.

Free REI clinics

Alan Engen and Gregory C. Thompson, co-authors of First Tracks - A Century of Skiing in Utah, will make a presentation Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Salt Lake REI store, 3285 E. 3300 South, East Millcreek.

The popular GPS 101 class is March 13 at 7 p.m. at the Sandy store, 230 W. 10600 South. Navigation experts will cover an introduction to the GPS system, types of receivers and basic functions.
