State wildlife law-enforcement officials are seeking information regarding the illegal shooting of a buck deer on the Henry Mountains in southeastern Utah.

Division of Wildlife Resources officials found the buck's carcass in the Coyote Benches/Mud Springs area. The animal had been shot and the antlers and skull plate were removed. The body was covered with branches and left to rot.

The area is a premium limited-entry unit. Although the antlers were removed so the size of the rack cannot be known for certain, the animal's teeth indicated it was about 7 years old and suggested it was a trophy-class animal.

Anyone with information regarding the incident should call 800-662-DEER or contact conservation officer Casey Mickelsen at 435-820-6010. A $1,000 reward will be paid for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the person responsible for the illegal shooting.
