Events include snow safety clinics, on-snow demonstrations, avalanche rescue beacon drills and an evening fundraising dinner.
A snow safety clinic with Tyson Bradley of Exum Utah will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m. Feb. 9. The cost is $59 and includes an all-day Tram ticket and lunch. Eric Murakami of Backcountry Access will lead a free advanced beacon course on Feb. 9 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Wasatch Backcountry Rescue president Dean Cardinale will conduct a "hasty" search clinic Feb. 10 from 9 to 11 a.m. The cost is $59 and includes an all-day Tram ticket and lunch.
David Oliver Relin, author of the New York Times best-seller Three Cups of Tea, will be the keynote speaker at the fundraising event on Feb. 8. He will talk about his experiences writing and reporting the book, show slides from his travels and discuss the work of the Central Asia Institute and the current crisis in Pakistan.
The fundraiser also will include dinner, a book signing and a silent auction. The dinner will take place in the Cliff Lodge Ballroom from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $75.
Backcountry Awareness Week is presented by the Snowbird Renaissance Center, Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort, Friends of the Utah Avalanche Center, Black Diamond, Exum Utah, Wasatch Backcountry Rescue and the King's English bookstore.
