Great gulls

Local birder and photographer Tim Avery, in association with Great Salt Lake Audubon, will present a class on identifying members of the gull family. The class is Wednesday at the Sugar House Garden Center from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost is $5. Call 801-272-8060 to reserve a spot.

Tools, techniques

The Layton Wild Bird Center is holding a free digital camera nature photography class Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. Local photographer Brian Currie will lead the workshop, covering the range of cameras available and talking about composition and editing techniques. The store is in the Layton Market Center, 1860 N. 1000 West. Call 801-525-8400 to register for the class.
