The annual Moab Bighorn Sheep Festival is being held Friday evening and Saturday. DWR wildlife program manager Bill Bates will lead a presentation on desert bighorn sheep Friday at 7 p.m. at the Moab Information Center, Center and Main, in Moab.
Participants will meet again at the information center at 8 a.m. Saturday where they will split into groups to go look for bighorn sheep. A wildlife biologist will guide each group and all parties will be in radio contact to share information about where the sheep are.
The event is free. Participants should bring binoculars and spotting scopes if they own them and snacks, water and a camera.
Utah's other species of bighorn sheep, Rocky Mountain, will be the subject of a viewing day at Rock Canyon Park in Provo on Saturday. DWR officials will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with spotting scopes and binoculars to help the public catch a glimpse of the sheep. The event is free. Rock Canyon Park is located at 2620 N. 1200 East (Iroquois Drive).
Wetland Wings and other Wild Things
The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge is now holding the "Wetland Wings and other Wild Things" program designed for preschoolers and kindergarteners (ages 3 to 6). The program features the wonders of wetland wildlife at the refuge. The November program is titled "Celebrating Swans with Suluk" and is held every Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. Registration is required. Contact Kathi Stopher at 435-734-6438 to register.
Birding trips
Great Salt Lake Audubon is hosting a birding trip to view winter reservoirs Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants will meet in the Shopko parking lot in Sugar House at 7:30 a.m. The group will visits East Canyon and Echo reservoirs and possibly Rockport reservoir. Bring lunch, water and dress for the weather. Call John Middleton at 801-322-2171 if you plan to attend. Carpooling is encouraged and a donation for gas money is suggested.
Willard Bay light display
Willard Bay State Park opens its annual Fantasy at the Bay drive-through holiday light display Saturday. The display will be open from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. nightly. Admission is $7 per car and Utah State Park passes are not accepted as payment.
