Utah Division of Wildlife Resources officers took 38 calls on its Help Stop Poaching Hotline (800-662-DEER) on the recent opening weekend of the general season deer hunt. Not all of the calls resulted in citations. Conservation officers also investigated numerous other cases and issued citations for incidents they encountered in the field:
* Wanton destruction of protected wildlife, 14 (deer 9, elk 4, bear 1)
* Spotlighting complaints (illegal use of lights to find wildlife), 2
* Unlawful taking of protected wildlife, 1
* Self-reported violation, 4 (3 deer and 1 goose)
* Using dogs, 1
* Trespass related, 7 (trespass 6, taking while trespassing 1)
* Shooting in closed area, 2 (Emigration Canyon and City Creek)
* Fishkill/environmental, 1 (Logan River)
* License violation, 1
* Shooting from a vehicle, 1
