Description: As you enter Butler Fork, you come to a log footbridge. After you cross it, the trail becomes steeper. Make your way over a small exposed rocky area with slight dropoffs. It is not difficult, but caution is needed. After the crossing, the trail becomes very steep, but only for a short distance. At 0.38 miles into the hike, you reach the top of the hill and enter Mount Olympus Wilderness area. The trail smooths out as you cross a footbridge into aspens. You come to a trail junction at 0.5 miles. Take the Mill A Basin Trail to the left. After the junction, you soon start a series of switchbacks for the ridgeline. At the ridgeline, the trail is less steep and turns north for the Desolation Trail Junction; go left. The trail turns west and goes in and out of aspen groves. Between the groves, you see Mount Raymond and the Baker Pass ridgeline. Just before the pass, there is a trail split; go right. You arrive at Baker Pass at 3.4 miles and see the trail heading uphill on the right; take it. The section from the pass to Gobblers Knob is steep. Take your time on this strenuous section and don't be disappointed that the first peak isn't Gobblers Knob. From the false peak, the trail smooths out on the ridgeline to the spectacular views from Gobblers Knob.
Directions: Drive eight miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon Road and park on the left side of the highway. The trail is posted.
