DWR seeks volunteers
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is looking for volunteers to help with a variety of programs ranging from Wild Guide Naturalists to Community Fishing Club instructors to Watchable Wildlife volunteers.

Navigation Day
National Geographic GPS expert Jeff Caulfield and REI Navigation specialists are holding a GPS Navigation Day on Saturday at the REI store in Sandy, 10600 S. 230 West. Participants should have attended REI's GPS 101 clinic or have basic GPS knowledge. The event starts at 9 a.m. and costs $15 for REI members and $30 for nonmembers. Fall Harvest Festival
and Heritage Fair
The third annual Fall Harvest Festival and Heritage Fair is being held Friday and Saturday at the American West Heritage Center in Wellsville.
Events include a Folk Band Battle on Friday at 7 p.m., which will take place in the middle of the center's giant corn maze. Old-time carnival games for kids, crafts for all ages, the Pioneer Olympics (including log-sawing, pie-eating and more) and other harvest-related activities such as corn-shelling and sorghum-pressing for molasses will be held throughout Saturday.
A Fall Harvest Supper begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and will feature food from the harvest. Dinner is $6 for adults, $5 for children or $25 for a family up to six. Call 435-245-6050 or visit www.awhc.org for other ticket prices.
Birding trips
Great Salt Lake Audubon is holding the following birding trips. Carpooling is encouraged, with gas money suggested. Call the trip leader to confirm details.
Saturday - Allene and Charles Keller will lead a trip to the HawkWatch International Goshute Mountain Research site south of Wendover in Nevada. The fall raptor migration is in full swing. The trailhead is about three hours from Salt Lake City. The hike can be strenuous (3.5 miles with 1,800-foot elevation gain). The group size is limited. Call Allene at 801-467-3960 to get a spot.
Wednesday - Jack Clark will lead the monthly bird survey of Mountain Dell Recreation Area in Parleys Canyon, with an 8 a.m. departure from Sugar House. Call Jack at 801-255-7989.
Oct. 6 - Jeanne LeBer and Ray Smith will lead a trip to the Strawberry Valley to clean bluebird nesting boxes. Gloves required. Call 801-532-7384 for more information.
Free REI clinics
Laurie Normandeau from Momentum Climbing will lead an introduction to climbing for women clinic tonight starting at 7 at the Sandy store, 10600 S. 230 West. The talk will start at REI and then move next door to Momentum Climbing for a demonstration.
Four local mountaineers on Tuesday at 7 p.m. will share their tales of climbing Mount Logan in Canada's Yukon Territory. The talk is at the Salt Lake store, 3285 E. 3300 South, in East Millcreek.
