New North Springs Shooting Range and Recreation Area opens

Carbon County now has a public shooting range with the opening of the North Springs Shooting Range and Recreation Area, 15 miles southwest of Price.

The new county range includes dozens of covered benches and shooting bays, concrete walkways and restÂrooms. Windproof bays with space heaters are available on cold and windy days.

North Springs caters to pistol and long-range shooters, with, 25-, 50-, 100-, 600- and 1,000-yard ranges. Archery shooters will also find North Springs accommodating, with 50 targets in 3-D, including a Utah raptor.

Other features include a main lodge with a lounge, meeting room, kitchen and restÂrooms. There are 115 dry campsites on the property.

The Old West Town on the property includes 15 buildings and nine shooting bays.

To get to North Spring, take State Road 10 south from Price for seven miles. Turn right at State Road 122 (Hiawatha Junction). Travel three miles and take a right at the Wattis Junction. From Wattis Junction, drive another five miles. Then follow the sign to the shooting range.

The North Springs Range is open 9 a.m. until dusk Wednesday through Sunday. A day pass for all firearms and static archery targets is $5 per person. Kids under 16 shoot for free. There is an additional $10 fee for a day pass with the 3-D archery targets. Yearly, family and group rates are available.
