All events are free and include a fishing simulator, animal track identification, kokanee egg stripping demonstrations and a chance for the kids to have their picture taken with Smokey Bear. A special presentation on ice fishing at Strawberry will be offered on Sept. 15 at 5 p.m.
This is a great wildlife opportunity to watch bright red spawning kokanee salmon in the Strawberry River and in the fish trap. The visitors center and fish trap are 20 miles east of Heber just off of State Highway 40 near the northwest corner of the reservoir. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Sept. 14 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 15.
Cyclist memorial ride
The 4th annual Josie Johnson Memorial Ride will take place Sept. 29 starting at 10:30 a.m. at Sugar House Park and ending at Mill Hollow Park in Holladay. The ride - held in remembrance of cyclists killed in car collisions - was established after Josie Johnson was killed in Big Cottonwood Canyon in September 2004. 'Grizzly' authors talk
Doug and Andrea Peacock, authors of The Essential Grizzly, will present a talk and sign books Monday as part of the 10th anniversary of Ken Sanders Rare Books. The talk starts at 7 p.m. at the store, 268 S. 200 East, in Salt Lake City. Copies of the book and other Doug Peacock titles will be available for purchase at the event.
Free REI Clinics
Dick Wunder, a member of the Natural Arch and Bridge Society, will talk about well-known and well-hidden arches around Moab Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Salt Lake store, 3285 E. 3300 South, in East Millcreek.
The popular GPS 101 clinic is being held Sept. 13 at the Sandy store, 230 W. 10600 South. REI navigation specialists will provide an introduction to Global Positioning Systems starting at 7 p.m.
