Outdoor Notebook: Top dogs, Flow Tour, Mid Mountain Marathon and more

The German Shorthair Club of Utah and the Brittany Club of Utah are holding a dog field trial in Lehi on Saturday for all pointer breeds.

The event starts at 7 a.m. and will run through noon; it's free to spectators. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the event, which will include top trainers, handlers and dogs from across the country.

Demonstrations will take place; all participating dogs will get a chance to point at live game. A training course specifically designed for puppies (3 months to a year old) will also be available.

The event is taking place about 3/4 -mile west of the Eagle Mountain turnoff on State Road 73.

Wave House Flow Tour competition

The Flowrider Utah facility in the Salomon Center in Ogden is hosting the Wave House Flow Tour competition Friday starting at 3 p.m. The nation's best flowboarders, kneeboarders and body boarders will demonstrate their abilities and compete for a chance to qualify for the international championship. Registration to compete is from noon to 2 p.m. Friday and costs $40. The event is open to the public.

Mid Mountain Marathon

The Mid Mountain Marathon is Sept. 8, with an 8 a.m. start at the Silver Lake Lodge at Deer Valley, finishing at The Forum at The Canyons. The run is being presented by Mountain Trails Foundation and Snyderville Basin Special Recreation District. Register for the race at www.runner card.com or visit www. mountaintrails.org for more.

Birding trips

Great Salt Lake Audubon is holding the following trips. Beginning birders are welcome, and carpooling, with a donation toward gas money, is always encouraged.

Learn basic bicycle maintenance and how to keep your bike in good working order tonight at 7 at the Sandy store, 10600 S. 230 West.

Joel Addams will present "Digital Photography the Italian Way" on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Salt Lake store, 3285 E. 3300 South, East Millcreek. Addams will take viewers on a trip through Venice, Tuscany and Cinque Terre all the while describing timing, setup, composition, exposure and the equipment needed for fine travel photography.
