The Great Salt Lake Gun Club, though operated privately, is part of the large state-owned Lee Kay Hunter Education Center, 6000 W. 2100 South, West Valley City.

The Great Salt Lake Gun Club has a pro shop, restrooms and cafe and is open Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 5 p.m., with Wednesday evening league shoots.

It has 16 automated trap fields and four skeet fields. Shooters pay $5 for a 25-round shoot, and must provide their own shotguns and ammunition. Call 801-972-2258.

Shooters who want to target practice using rifles or pistols can use the ranges at the Lee Kay Center, a public shooting range that offers safety classes. According to Utahshooting sports.com, the center includes a 50-foot smallbore range, a pistol and muzzleloader range with target points to 50 yards, and a centerfire rifle range with 100- and 200-yard positions and 300-yard points on a limited schedule. The ranges are open Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. They are closed Monday and Tuesday. For information, call 801-972-1326. Cost is $4 per day for adults and $2 for juniors (younger than 15).

Eye and ear protection is required on all ranges. Children younger than 14 must be with a parent or guardian. Youths 14 to 16 must be with an adult 21 or older.
