Utah had the top three typical antlers for American elk and half of the top 22 new entries recently recognized by the Boone and Crockett Club. The new records were submitted between Jan. 1, 2004, and Dec. 31, 2006. Utah also dominated the nontypical American elk category with four of the six entries.
Utah also had two new records recognized in the typical mule deer division and three in the nontypical mule deer category. Two of the three records in the non-typical division came from animals killed in the 1930s, but only recently were submitted as possible records.
