Brush up your cycling skills at a free Bike Bonanza

Learn everything you need to know about biking in Utah this spring and summer at REI's Bike Bonanza. The festivities run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 14 at the Sandy store, 230 W. 10600 South.

Cycling experts will provide free presentations ranging from do-it-yourself maintenance to preparing for a ride. There will be a bike rodeo for kids and test rides on new bikes.

Wing Fling II

The Bear River Migratory Refuge is celebrating the first anniversary of the James Hansen Education Center April 21 with Wing Fling II.

The Wasatch and Bridgerland chapters of Audubon will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to answer questions about birds and the refuge. Artist Debbie Goodman will present a program in the auditorium at 11 a.m. Wildlife photographer Ted Steinke will show some of his images at 1 p.m.

The hands-on Family Wetland Ed-Venture runs from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and is designed to teach youth about the wonders of the wetlands. Registration is required. Call 435-723-5887 for more information.

Mammals program

Antelope Island State Park personnel will show a slide show about the mammals living on the island Friday at 3 p.m. at the visitors center. Call 801-721-9569 for more information.

Snakes program

Goblin Valley State Park is holding a Crazy About Snakes program Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Call 435-564-3633 for more information.

Spring constellations

Snow Canyon State Park staffers will lead the Spring Constellations program Saturday starting at 8:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair and listen to myths, legends and lore of the night sky in the spring. Call 435-628-2255 for more information.

Mine maps

The Utah Geological Survey is asking the public to share old maps that might contain information about old mines to help catalog a new digital database of abandoned coal mines in the state. More than 400 abandoned coal mines have been identified, but maps for only 58 percent have been located.

Volunteers needed

Cedar Breaks National Monument is holding a meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. to discuss its 2007 Volunteer in Parks program.

Volunteers are needed for special events and ongoing programs offered at the national monument.

The meeting is at the Cedar Breaks administrative office, 2390 W. Highway 56, Cedar City. Call 435-586-9451 for more information.

Free REI clinic

REI, 10600 S. 230 West, Sandy, is holding a mountain biking clinic for women April 12 at 7 p.m. Local rider Kari Gillette will discuss biking basics.
