For the third year, Yellowstone is operating under temporary regulations, which allow only cleaner-running and quieter snowmobiles. Daily visitor limits are allowed only under guided supervision.

Visitor centers will be open at West Yellowstone, Old Faithful and Mammoth. Naturalist-led activities and evening programs are available throughout the winter.
Junior Pony Express
Camp Floyd State Park in Fairfield is holding a Junior Pony Express Rider program Dec. 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There was Pony Express stop at Camp Floyd from 1860 to 1861. The program is designed for children, but all ages are welcome to participate. A workbook is included in the program. Each child is presented with an official Pony Express wooden nickel when their workbook is completed. The program is free with paid admission of $2 per person or $6 per family to the state park.

Indoor climbing gym
Momentum Indoor Climbing will open a 20,000-square-foot climbing gym in the spring next to the Sandy REI store, 230 W. 10600 South. The gym will also include bouldering, a kids' climbing area, yoga, child care, an exercise area and a cafe. Day passes will run $15, with $49 monthly fees. Scofield Fishing Derby
The first annual Scofield Fishing Derby is Dec. 30 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sponsored by Utah State Parks and Recreation, the derby is limited to 49 anglers. Prizes will be awarded for the top three largest fish. Check-in is 6:30 to 8 a.m. at the Scofield Madsen Bay parking area. Registration is required and there is a $10 entry fee. Dead Horse Point plan
Utah State Parks and Recreation officials are seeking public comment on the draft resource management plan for Dead Horse Point State Park near Moab.
The proposal was developed through a series of team and public meetings and is available online at www.state parks.utah.gov. The Utah Whitewater Club is holding its monthly meeting Jan. 4, at 7 p.m. at the Salt Lake REI store, 3285, E. 3300 South, in East Millcreek.
