The University of Utah Hockey Club will be having open tryouts on Monday at 7 p.m., Tuesday at 7 p.m., and Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. Players should arrive one hour early and bring a set of gym clothes in addition to their gear. RUNNING

Saturday -- Great Salt Lake half marathon. Starts at Island View Park, 1800 S. Main in Clearfield, and ends on Antelope Island. (Transportation back from the island is provided.) Aug. 26 -- No More Victims, Inc. is sponsoring the first annual Children's Justice Center 5K and Teddybear 1K on Aug. 26 at 8 a.m. All proceeds will go directly to support the Children's Justice Center. There will be challenges in different age groups as well as elementary school, junior high and high school. The Red Hat Society will lead the small children on their teddybear 1K, with all finishers receiving a teddy bear.

Aug. 26 -- Blessed Sacrament Fall Festival 5k Fun Run/Walk starts at 8 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament School, 9800 S. 1700 East in Sandy. Pre-register for $20 by Sept. 20 or $25 after that. TRIATHLON

Saturday -- West Valley City Triathlons and Kids' Tri. For the triathlon, pre-register for $30 before Aug. 12 or $35 after that. Teams are $75. The race consists of a 400-yard swim, 14-mile bike, 5K-run and for novices a 200-yard swim, 7-mile bike, 2-mile run and starts at 7 a.m. The kids tri is at 9:30 a.m. and consists of a 50-yard swim, 1-mile bike, 1.4-mile run. Clearfield Parks and Recreation Teams are forming for the women's and coed volleyball leagues. Women's games are played on Tuesday and coed games are played on Wednesday beginning the week of Sept. 18. There will be nine matches plus a double elimination tournament.
