Fly the Jolly Roger at Antelope by Moonlight Bike Ride

The 13th annual Antelope by Moonlight Bike Ride will be July 7 at Antelope Island State Park on the Great Salt Lake. The ride is from the marina to Garr Ranch and back, a total of 22 miles. It is not a competitive ride. Rider check-in runs from 8:30 to 10 p.m. and the ride runs from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Pre-registration costs $25 for riders older than 14 before June 23 and $20 for riders younger than 14. Fee includes T-shirt, park entry, refreshments and entertainment. There is a pirate theme to this year's event, and riders are encouraged to dress themselves and their bikes appropriately. Grand Staircase grant

The American Hiking Society has given a grant of $4,000 to Grand Staircase-Escalante Partners, a group of Kanab residents dedicated to "creating and cementing a bond between the national monument and the public."

The money will be used to improve and restore trails in the Devil's Garden area, making it accessible to wheelchairs. For information on Grand Staircase-Escalante Partners, call 435-644-4688.

Mill Creek herb walk

The Utah Museum of Natural History is holding an herb walk in Mill Creek Canyon Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to look at the diversity of vegetation in the canyon and its practical uses. The hike will be led by Merry Lycett Harrison of Millcreek Herbs and is open to people 12 and older. Transportation from the museum is provided. The cost is $22 and preregistration is required. Centennial celebration

Edge of the Cedars State Park in Blanding is holding a Centennial Celebration of the 1906 Antiquities Act Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. A free pancake breakfast will be from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by the Centennial Celebration Art Fair. More than 30 artists from the Four Corners area will be selling handmade items. Dancing, music, demonstrations, tours and a silent auction also will be held. A symposium titled "Ancient Lands, Contemporary Issues" will be presented by the College of Eastern Utah, San Juan Campus, from 1 to 5 p.m. A reception for the new museum exhibit "Archaeology of the Northern San Juan: The First 100 Years" starts at 5 p.m. Call 435-678-2238 for more information.

Volunteers needed

Officials from the Flaming Gorge Ranger District are looking for a volunteer to staff the boaters' contact station at the spillway below Flaming Gorge Dam and another to direct traffic at the boat ramp on the river. Two other volunteers are needed at the Little Hole area: one to work the contact station there; and the other to do basic ground maintenance. Volunteers will be paid $20 each day and will be reimbursed for mileage to and from the work site. Recreational vehicle camp sites are available for volunteers. Family night

The Utah Botanical Center and Utah State University Extension 4-H Aggie Adventures for Kids are holding a free family night Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Utah Botanical Center, 900 S. 50 West, Kaysville.

Family night is designed to give people a taste of the Botanical Center's Aggie Adventure day camps - Owls, Spells and Potions, Water Adventure, Nature Art, Junior Master Gardeners and Slimy, Gooey, Gross. The weeklong, half-day camps for various ages are scheduled June 27 to Aug. 11. Call 801-544-3089 for more information.
