Orienteering is an outdoor sport that uses map reading, navigation skills and speed. Orienteering Utah is a small club that hosts monthly events at parks and forests along the Wasatch Front. Scout troops also use the events for practice towards badges. Events are free of charge and generally take an hour to complete. Instruction and compasses are available at the start point which is referenced on the club's Web site, www.o-utah.org. Cost is $5 per event.

Oct. 24, 7-8 p.m. » Hidden Valley Park, 2800 E. Wasatch Blvd,, Sandy
