Participants set a personal goal for the number of feet they want to climb during the event and raise donations based on their goals. Proceeds benefit HERA, which is focused on finding a cure for ovarian cancer.
Climb4Life SLC is hosted by Black Diamond. Beginners are welcome. Other activities include learn-to-climb clinics, multimedia presentations by popular climbers, parties, massage and yoga. Volunteers needed for fisheries project
The newly formed Bonneville Fly Fishers chapter of the Federation of Fly Fishers is holding a volunteer work project on the Weber River on Sept. 20. Volunteers will meet at the Sinclair station in Coalville at 8 a.m. Bring work equipment, waders and GPS units if you have them.

The Bear River Watershed Council is sponsoring a free concert in Providence Canyon on Sept. 6, starting at 4:30 p.m.

Wildwoods BASH
The Ogden Nature Center is holding its 23rd annual Wildwoods BASH on Sept. 13 starting at 5 p.m. at the center, 966 W. 12th St., Ogden. Activities include dinner, music and an auction.

Mountain Film Festival Sept. 18-21 in Ogden
The Utah High Adventure Mountain Film Festival, hosted by Ogden Climbing Parks, is Sept. 18-21 in Ogden. Events will include films and panel discussions. The festival highlights the best of mountain films, including new releases, and is part of the Utah's High Adventure Festival, which includes the annual fall film festival and a Mountain Adventure Arts, Literature and Environment Festival (Climbfest) each spring.

Author Ralston to speak
Aron Ralston, author of "Between a Rock and a Hard Space," based on his experience of having to cut off his arm after he was injured while hiking in Canyonlands National Park, will speak Sept. 4 at Orson Spencer Hall Auditorium on the University of Utah campus.

Tony Grove regulations
The Forest Service is encouraging visitors to the Tony Grove area in Logan Canyon to heed recreational use regulations in the popular recreation area. More people are using the area, and conflicts between groups have increased.
Designated uses in the area include day-use only around Tony Grove Lake, overnight parking at the trailhead for backcountry travel and equestrian users, and overnight camping at the campground.
Some users are taking advantage of camping at the backcountry trailhead to avoid paying the higher campground fee. Overnight camping is specifically prohibited at the backcountry trailhead.

Great Salt Lake Audubon is hosting several birding trips. Beginners are always welcome; carpooling (with a gas donation) is encouraged.

The Salt Lake REI store, 3285 E. 3300 South, East Millcreek, is holding two clinics this week. Both start at 7 p.m.
Learn how to stay in shape during the triathlete "off-season" on Sept. 2. Nutritional guidelines for beginner, novice and expert-level triathletes will be provided.
The popular GPS 101 clinic is Sept. 4. Learn the basics of Global Positioning Systems from REI navigation expert Paul Vernon.
