The Ogden Paddle Festival is Saturday, Aug. 23. Visitors over the age of 6 can learn to paddle a kayak, row a scull, or cast a fly rod, and can visit vendor booths while listening to live music. The event also features children's activities, boat races, kayak polo, food and prize drawings. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Utah Rivers Council. Red Butte Garden is looking for volunteers to lead weekly school groups of first through fourth grade students through the facility while teaching children about the natural world. Required training required is provided; enthusiasm and dedication are essential. Training dates are Aug. 26-28 (Tuesday through Thursday), 9 a.m. to noon, at the garden, 300 Wakara Way, Salt Lake City.
100 years of art at Zion
Zion National Park will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2009. To mark this event, the St. George Art Museum is hosting a comprehensive exhibit of Zion. Visitors will experience the park through the eyes of artists from across the country and over more than a century. The exhibit, which opens Monday, Aug. 25, includes 74 paintings and photographs tracing the history of art in Zion Canyon beginning in 1870 to the present day. A separate juried exhibit features 68 works of contemporary Zion National Park art. Peter Hassrick of the Denver Art Museum selected the works from more than 500 entries.
