No matter what happens tonight, the West Jordan comedian Marcus will be performing at two local Wise Guys comedy clubs this weekend.
The only thing that might change is that if Marcus wins "Last Comic Standing," airing at 7 tonight on KSL channel 5, he could afford to buy a round of nachos for everyone in attendance.
Marcus is one of five finalists on the NBC reality show, and the winner earns a NBC talent contract and $250,000, enough money to buy a lot of nachos.
While most of the series was on tape delay, tonight's season finale will air live from the Paris Casino in Las Vegas.
"You find out [the winner] when we find out," Marcus told The Salt Lake Tribune as he was waiting for a plane flight.
It has been a whirlwind summer for Marcus, as he rocketed from relative obscurity to one of five finalists on a national show. The tattooed, dark-haired, one-named comedian has been a star on the show from the beginning, when he successfully auditioned with impressions of Matthew McConaughey, Capt. Jack Sparrow and Bobcat Goldthwait.
But as the show progressed, Marcus showed that he was more than a one-trick pony of impressions. He loves to write comedy as much as he loves performing one of his 1,000 voices, and said he aims for career longevity.
"You have about a year to really solidify your spot in the business," he said, adding that the next season of "Last Comic Standing" will likely air next summer.
Marcus will have the chance to solidify his spot starting in September, when he and the four other finalists will embark on a cross-country "Last Comic Standing" tour that will last until February.
As it stands right now, the tour does not include the Beehive state, but "if I win, they might add Utah," Marcus said.
