On Dec. 9, our state school board will be voting on a rule change that would make significant changes to the Utah High School Activities Association's governance over student activities, moving the power to make these decision from the UHSAA to the state school board, despite the overwhelming feedback from districts, schools, patrons, coaches and parents throughout the state.

These changes are the opposite of local control — the state board wants to wrest the power to make these decisions from the locally chosen UHSAA members and take the power for themselves.

The Alpine School District Board of Education sent a powerful letter to all members of the state board, asking them to keep the governance of the UHSAA as it currently stands. This is an exceptional letter, one that (in particular) the state board members representing our district should pay close attention to.

Please write to these board members and ask them to vote no. It will be interesting to see how the state board members representing ASD vote, in the face of overwhelming feedback to not make these changes.
