Letter: Tribune should shine light on Utah’s unlimited campaign donations

The recent Tribune series on how state legislators spend campaign donations is to be commended.  Unfortunately, it fails to address the real elephant in the room – that Utah is one of only four states in the nation with no limit on the size of campaign donations.

This flaw in our state’s political system opens the floodgates to large corporations and wealthy individuals, who gain undue, self-serving influence on legislation at the expense of millions of ordinary Utahns.

I hope the Tribune will next do an investigation of this more impactful aspect of political corruption in Utah.
