Letter: Sen. Lee has sold his soul to Trump

(Rick Egan | Tribune file photo) Sen. Mike Lee speaks to republican supporters during a news conference with second lady Karen Pence at the Utah Sate Capitol, Friday, Nov. 15, 2019.

Our own Sen. Mike Lee is now a co-chairman of President Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign here in Utah, and he tells us that Trump’s presidency is “a gift.”

Back in 2016, before the president was nominated, Lee proclaimed: “Your conduct, sir, is the distraction. It’s the distraction from the very principles that will help us win in November. Mr. Trump, I respectfully ask you, with all due respect to step aside. Step down. Allow someone else to carry the banner of these principles.”

What could have brought about this profound change of heart for Lee? Could it be that the president is no longer the pathological liar and amoral narcissist he once was? Well, that can’t be it.

Or is it possible that the senator sees an opportunity in the not so distant future for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court? The gift that keeps on giving.

Now we know what he means by Trump’s presidency being a gift.

The only price is selling your soul.
