I am certain that many people have seen the ad on CNN. The one that initially shows an apple sitting there harmlessly. The sullen melodic voice comes on and tells you that this is an apple. It further confirms that it was always an apple and will always be an apple. They also tell you that there are others that may tell you that it is a banana, but it will always be an apple. The ad then morphs into one with chattering teeth that is supposed to infer that there are those that are trying to change the status quo. The apple was to represent the truth. The truth will always be the truth even though others will try to tell you that it’s not.
A little thought on this ad is revealing. I thought it funny how many things that were “true” or apples, have now been termed false. Take, for example, slavery. At one time the apple was slavery. Now slavery is no longer an apple. There was a time the apple was a felony to commit gay sex. Now that apple is no longer an apple. At one time the apple was marriage between a man and a woman. Now we see that the apple is no longer an apple. Now I could go on and on on how a “truth” is not always a truth, as CNN has postulated.
So we can see now that CNN is simply wrong. An apple is only an apple if the fiery liberal consensus tells us it is an apple. If they decide that the name apple is offensive, perhaps because it was used in the Bible, then perhaps they will demand to change it to something else and ban the term apple from our lexicon. Like they have done to the traditional definition of “marriage” and a host of other things. So, to CNN I say: Nice try. An apple is not necessarily an apple after all.
