Letter: Feel like you're not being heard? "Resist"

Protesters unfurl a banner that reads "Resist" at the construction site of the former Washington Post building in Washington, Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, after police say protesters climbed a crane at the site refusing to allow workers to work in the area. (AP Photo/Pablo Martinez Monsivais)

I think I am an example of a Utah resident. I want clean air, water, safety, streets, etc. I don’t mind paying my fair share of taxes. I just want my money to go to things other than making rich people richer.

I want our state to be the pristine place on the planet that it truly is. I believe the fossil fuel companies are rich enough, and that we have to face the fact that the use of these fuels will eventually be harmful to our offspring.

When I see how I feel vs. how my elected representatives say they feel, I sense a huge disconnect. I, like many, feel my thoughts and preferences don’t carry much “weight.” I contribute $100, others contribute $100,000. I think I know whose calls carry the most “weight.” I found a better method of communicating with my representatives. Text to 504-09, enter the word “resist.”

Instructions follow. I feel that we all want to be heard. Maybe this will help. By the way, if you like podcasts: “Both sides of the Aisle” with Natalie Gochnour is a must listen for all Utahns.
