Letter: ATVs don't belong on Antelope Island

(Al Hartmann | The Salt Lake Tribune) View of the causeway from Antelope Island looking east towards Syracuse Wednesday January 21. During the mid-1980's the causeway was covered by the rising Great Salt Lake. Now the lake is approaching near-record low levels.

I was appalled when I read The Tribune recently. The suggestion about possibly allowing ATVs on Antelope Island made me extremely angry. Why in the world is this even being considered?

No matter where one goes, practically the entire island can be seen. For many years, this has been my “peaceful” place. It’s unique, wonderful and quiet and the thought of disturbing this beauty just makes me sick.

I know why this atrocity is being proposed, of course. It’s all about someone wanting to make money and the person or persons who are proposing this should be ashamed. Keep Antelope Island for what it is, pure, quiet and wonderful.
