I expect the fiasco in D.C. and the gerrymandered stifling of dissent in Utah to end badly. Out of the rubble, a new United States will emerge.
First, all present state boundaries will disappear. In their stead will be 100 new states based solely on population. Each state will have 3.3 million constituents (or less, depending on how things are resolved). Some states will be cities, or parts of cities (New York may have three states and Wyoming none).
All boundaries will be based on current counties, with any subdividing determined by ZIP codes.
Once the states are determined, each state will have one representative determined by petition. No representative can be seated without at least 50 percent plus 1 of the votes of registered voters. Voter registration will be automatic with driver license and/or utility bill. These representatives will rewrite the Constitution.
We will keep some of the old, and add much to reflect our current, and expected situation. Each state will determine what political structure it wants to adopt, but there will be public financing of elections, term limits, no gerrymandering, and no political involvement of corporations, unions and/or PACs.
