Letter: This is who I am, Rep. Curtis — are you ‘still here’ for me?

After winning the special election for the 3rd Congressional District, John Curtis said in his victory speech, “if you’re not white, Mormon or male, I’m still here for you.”

Are you still there for me as a biracial, transgender atheist who is poor with a pre-existing health condition and cannot afford health insurance; who is worried about a personal tax increase to help pay for tax cuts to the wealthy, who is disabled and needs Medicaid assistance because of a recent gunshot wound while studying at school; who is addicted to opioids to help relieve the pain, with no voice against the gun lobby; who happens to have a young child with special education needs, a person that has trouble breathing the polluted air and wants to recuperate by visiting our diminishing national monuments; an individual living in a gerrymandered political district who is therefore marginalized, yet still wants to vote but has difficulty because of certain voting restrictions; a person with some liberal political and social beliefs, and a citizen who is disgusted, embarrassed and appalled by our country’s current leadership?

Some may consider me to be a minority, but I’m actually a composite of numerous residents of your constituency.

So, are you still there for me?
