Gays condemn themselves

I must answer Paul Brault's sick letter where with his twisted thinking he tries to slam The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, saying that its opposition to same-sex marriage in California “condemns” gays (“LDS letter,” Forum, July 10). He obviously doesn't understand that this is the Church of Jesus Christ, guided by a prophet who is assisted by 12 apostles.

The LDS Church is not threatened in any sense by homosexuals. Are practicing queers (their term) second-class citizens? Absolutely, in the same sense that practicing adulterers and fornicators are. As Cecil B. DeMille said: “No one breaks the commandments; they only break themselves on the commandments.” Yes, many couples live in a homosexual lifestyle, and no, the sky hasn't fallen in, yet. But go to the Bible and read about Sodom and Gomorrah, and realize the last chapter is still to be written.

As Mormons, we condemn no one. People condemn themselves by the lifestyle they choose. Remember God's commandment: "Honor thy father and thy mother" (Exodus 20:12) - not honor thy father and his live-in partner.
