Sen. Orrin Hatch is indignant that some of us fear that our government will abuse the recent expansion of its warrantless wiretapping powers ("Senate vote backs Bush on wiretaps," Tribune, July 10). His scorn is an insult.
I'm one nutcake who is, indeed, afraid.
Our present Republican administration has abused its power in countless ways, both large and small, ranging from contriving the Iraq war out of thin air to outing one of our own spies because her husband exposed the government's deceit in marketing the war.
You bet I'm afraid.
