In the school vouchers debate, I have always been puzzled at the amount of money and effort the voucher proponents are willing to put into it. After reading Paul Rolly's Aug. 6 column, the light went on for me and the thin veneer of it being about poor children being able to attend private schools was ripped away.
With LDS scripture being used in pro-voucher ads, it becomes obvious the Utah voucher proponents want the public to subsidize LDS-themed private schools so their children can attend school with other children who have the same beliefs.
This segregation is harmful for our community. But that aside, I remind those who want vouchers of the words from another LDS scripture: We do not believe it to be just to mingle religious influence with civil government (Doctrine and Covenants 134:9)." It is wrong to foster LDS schools (or any other religious schools) with public tax money in any form.
