Wrong Mormon
This is an archived article that was published on sltrib.com in 2007, and information in the article may be outdated. It is provided only for personal research purposes and may not be reprinted.

The Tribune's June 4 cover story on the idea that some Mormons believe in a legend that in the final days the Constitution will be "hanging by a thread" and a Mormon will save the day insinuates that Mitt Romney is that "savior" to many Mormons.

Guess what? The Constitution is hanging by a thread, thanks to George W. Bush and his practices of torture, the end of habeas corpus and secret surveillance of U.S. citizens, to name a few examples.

But it's not Mitt who is currently trying to restore the rule of law and defend the Constitution and everything the United States used to stand for. It's the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, a Mormon. If any Mormon is going to "save the Constitution," my bet's on Reid.
