First, the Blue Ribbon Advisory Council on Climate Change is to report on the science of climate change and make recommendations to reduce the impacts of carbon emissions. The BRAC will consider a broader range of initiatives than was noted by Rolly. More information can be found at www.energy.utah.gov.
Second, Rolly incorrectly stated that Dr. Laura Nelson, the governor's energy adviser, promotes slashing tax incentives for the installation of solar panels in homes. Although a personal tax credit is not part of Dr. Nelson's recommendations to the governor and Legislature, the governor's office has progressively sought opportunities to support renewable energy development across the state, including funding numerous solar projects, tax credits, and other incentives to better promote small-scale renewable energy projects.
Third, Rolly questions the governor's commitment to energy efficiency because of a decision to close state-owned compressed natural gas fueling stations to the public. It is important to note that access was originally granted to small business CNG fleets at a time when there was limited development of commercial CNG fueling stations.
Expansion of these commercial for-profit fueling stations has improved the availability of CNG fuel. To compete with commercial fueling stations would hamper commercial development of CNG fuel stations.
