Eco-freak mentality

In reading David E. Jensen's diatribe against off-highway vehicle users ("Gear head mentality," Forum, Jan. 20), his intolerance and hatred for others shines through loudly and clearly. His rant was a clear example of the eco-freak mentality that he and his ilk display so liberally.

He wrote that the OHV users have an "inflexible mindset . . .." Please take a look in the mirror. In the public land debate no one is more inflexible than environmentalists. They don't seek compromise in public land use. They simply demand nothing less than OHVs being eradicated. They don't seek to discuss their concerns with legitimate OHV organizations. They simply file lawsuit after lawsuit against the Bureau of Land Management, the Forest Service, the state, etc. They don't acknowledge that public land is just that - public. Instead, they view it as a playground only for them.

The public is sick and tired of environmentalists' eco-religion being shoved down its throat. In the last 20 years, over 50 percent of accessible land for OHV use has been declared off limits. Factory Butte is the latest example.

Stop the Chicken Little eco-hype and realize there is enough room for all of us, not just those whom environmentalists approve of.
