Tuesday's election is one in which voters choose representatives who directly affect on their lives - members of city councils and mayors - and resolve community issues.
The Salt Lake Tribune Editorial Board interviewed candidates in a number of mayoral and city council races in the Salt Lake Valley and researched both sides of a referendum in Sandy regarding zoning for a mixed-use development that includes a Wal-Mart and a Lowe's. After much discussion, we crafted endorsements of the candidates we would vote for and which way we came down on the Sandy zoning issue.
