Youth out of touch

With every passing day I am becoming more and more frightened for the future of America. Recently I took my own survey of fellow high school students asking them basic political questions. Out of approximately 25 students, 13 knew who the vice president was, 10 knew there are two main political parties, and only three knew where they personally stood.

Only one could name a member of President Bush's cabinet, and none could give me the name of a U.S. Supreme Court justice. I am getting the feeling that my generation is losing more and more interest in politics and falling into the trendy, cool thing to do, which right now is to hate Bush without knowing why. Countless times I have heard people saying that they hate Bush and when I inquired as to why all they can say is “because he sucks.”

This is my plea to the youth of America to become politically educated and opinionated so when our time comes and this already suffering country is put into our generation's hands we will rise to the occasion and keep it the prosperous, militarily elite economic beacon it is today.
